Antonio Cromartie Looks Like He Was Tanking Against the Jets on Two Crucial 4th Quarter Plays

antonio cromartie chargersAntonio Cromartie, seen here chasing Shonne Greene in the fourth quarter of the Chargers’ 17-14 playoff loss to the Jets last weekend, has seen his career unravel in recent years. He emerged as a star cornerback in 2007, picking off 10 passes and earning 1st team All-Pro status. It has been all downhill from there. Stories emerged about the multiple kids (seven) he fathered with various women. He ripped the team food during training camp and was fined. He allegedly got into an altercation that ended up with a bar patron getting hit in the head with a champagne bottle. But all of that pales in comparison to the two GIFs we’ve tucked after the jump that show Cromartie absolutely tanking it in the fourth quarter of the loss to the Jets.

Antonio Cromartie tanking it

Is Cromartie afraid of contact? He looks to have a clear shot on Greene at the line of scrimmage and simply does nothing. How can a coach watch this on film and not shatter a TV? This was the play that won the game for the Jets – Greene proceeded to run over Eric Weddle and race to the end zone. Cromartie gave chase, but that effort means nothing after missing out on the opportunity to make a play at the line of scrimmage.

On this play, you’ll notice every Charger lunges toward the line of scrimmage. Except Cromartie, who isn’t even blocked. (A Jets lineman falls at his feet.)
