Gordon Hayward will be a first round pick. There’s no debate about that. Is he lottery-worthy? You can’t read too much into any one game from the NCAA Tournament – especially not his 2-for-11 effort last night – but you can tell he’s got a skill set that is reminiscent of Mike Dunleavy (3rd pick in terrible 2002 draft).
The ability to effortlessly put the ball between his legs and hit a step-back three. His mid-air, change-of-hands put-back last night against Duke. Hayward played power forward for most of the season, but his game translates to small forward in the NBA. We project him as a real nice role player at the next level. That said … we hope the 20-year-old stays one more year.
