Another Female Journalist Goes After Erin Andrews

Much of this ground has been covered before (and in harsher terms). But does Erin Andrews want to be considered a journalist? Nobody thinks of her as one – mention her name and you’re more likely to get “that chick on ESPN” rather than “that journalist at ESPN.” Who thinks of sideline reporters as journalists? A better description: acquirer of soundbites. (Also, we’d disagree that the GQ spread was “racy.”)

And we have a quibble with this last line, too:

"Andrews is going to have to decide whether she wants to be a proper journalist or continue to be a journalistic lightweight who’s light on her feet."

Just don’t think that’s the case. The phrase “proper journalist” is antiquated. And why does she have to decide? After this run on Dancing with the Stars, she’ll be in high demand, regardless. She’ll either return to ESPN and patrol the sidelines, watching football and basketball and conducting fluffy interviews (or, she’ll go to the MLB Network in some fashion; we heard that rumor yesterday). Or maybe she’ll go to Access Hollywood or Extra and do what Joanna Molloy is doing in newspapers (celebrity/entertainment stuff) on TV. [NYDN]
