Roy Halladay’s perfect game. The US National soccer team. The Flyers in the Stanley Cup. T’was a big Saturday in Philly.
The Phillies flopped for the last week, getting swept (and shutout) by the Mets and losing the best record in the NL to the Reds (yup, our preseason pick). The Flyers surged into the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 13 years. All the hype Saturday night was surrounding the Flyers … who proceeded to not only lose, but surprisingly pull their goalie, creating something of a controversy. Roy Halladay, meanwhile, pitched a perfect game – only the 20th in MLB history – against the Marlins. And earlier in the day, the US soccer team had its World Cup sendoff at Lincoln Financial Field, and beat Turkey, 2-1. Now if Doug Collins and Andre Iguodala can make nice!
