Houston Nutt: The Ole Miss coach recently accepted troubled Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli as a transfer, and while they’re doing the Rebel Yell in Oxford, this acquisition will almost certainly blow up in Nutt’s face. The former Arkansas coach – who hired high school Gus Malzahn in Dec. 2005 as an assistant coach just to get his elite players – seems to be desperate to win after last year’s disappointing season. Maybe Nutt felt he was on the hot seat, and had to play dirty to finish above .500 and get to a quality bowl game? “Apparently the terminally insecure coach doesn’t feel he can afford a rebuilding year despite averaging nine wins over his past four seasons.” [SI]
