Indians 6, Red Sox 5: Indians catcher Carlos Santana got absolutely mauled by Sox no-name outfielder Ryan Kalish in a collision at the plate. The slo-mo looked brutal, as did this close-up of his nuts getting pulverized. Probably a good thing the video isn’t in HD. He’s back in Cleveland for an MRI today.

Rays 4, Twins 2: In his major league debut, Tampa’s Jeremy Hellickson went seven innings and allowed two runs. He’s going back to the minors for now but we’ll be seeing him again when the rosters expand in September. Can’t wait. Oh, almost forgot, the Rays have moved into a tie with the Yankees for first place in the AL East.

Astros 9, Cardinals 4: Jake Westbrook’s Cardinals debut ended with St. Louis in second place, but it wasn’t really his fault. The Cards bullpen was a mess and should really take turns giving merciless wedgies to one another. It’s the only kind of justice I can think of.

Blue Jays 8, Yankees 6: A seven-run Blue Jays fifth was the key. Yes, Sergio Mitre was involved. A-Rod is still stuck on 599 home runs. Disgrace.

Padres 10, Dodgers 5: That’ll just about do it for Dodgers baseball in 2010. They’ve lost six straight, are nine back in the division, seven back in the wildcard and generally look awful. Say goodnight.

Reds 4, Pirates 0: Rookie Travis Wood (7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER) cruised through the Buccos lineup. More importantly, in vintage Dwayne Johnson style, the Reds have come back to first place.
