Marlins 7, Phillies 1; Phillies 7, Marlins 4: Not a great start for Oswalt (7 IP, 4 ER, 3 HR) but he hasn’t lost since the end of July. With the doubleheader split though, the Phils continue to sniff first place like a hound dog but refuse to bite.

Padres 4, Dodgers 2: San Diego snapped their embarrassing 10-game losing streak and it only took them seven pitchers to do so. Pathetically, they’re still in first place.

White Sox 5, Tigers 4 (10 innings): Yesterday’s win makes seven straight for the White Sox. This entire streak will somehow be attributed to Manny even though he’s only been in town for five of the seven games.

Oh boy, you’re not going to believe this song:

Pirates 3, Braves 1: Ouch. I’m sensing second place in Atlanta’s future.

Red Sox 12, Rays 5: The Rays are on a three-game skid, but the recent performance of Jeff Niemann remains encouraging. In his last 10 innings pitched, he has allowed 23 runs.

Cardinals 8, Brewers 6: Behind a solid outing from Jake Westbrook (6 IP, 2 ER) and Yadier Molina’s 4 RBIs, the St. Louis Cardinals are back!

Orioles 4, Yankees 3: Buck Showalter got his revenge in his return to the Bronx, greatly easing the pain of watching Joe Torre win four World Series rings after taking over for him in the 1996 season. Burnett wasn’t awful, but the Yanks’ October rotation is hardly scary.

Giants 2, Diamondbacks 0 (11 innings): An impressive pitcher’s duel between Madison Bumgarner and Ian Kennedy. Sadly, said duel quickly becomes a loss for whichever team decides to bring in Aaron Heilman.
