Which Last Place NFL Team From Last Year Will Continue the Trend and Get to the Playoffs?

As Rich Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News points out, a slew of teams in the last decade have made a leap from last place to the playoffs. Obviously not all last place teams are created equal – the Saints went from 8-8 in 2008 to Super Bowl winners in 2009.

In 1998 the Rams went 4-12, then Kurt Warner arrived and the next year St. Louis won the Super Bowl. Your candidates this year: Buffalo (no shot), Cleveland (absolutely no shot), Jacksonville (nope), Kansas City (playoffs?), Washington (playoffs?), Detroit (better, but not quite there), Tampa (maybe the worst team in the league), and St. Louis (worst team in the league). If we had to pick a cellar dwellar with the best chance to pull it off we’d go with KC, only because the division is horrendous. Washington’s division is too difficult; ditto for Detroit.
