0-3 NFL Starts: Five teams have made the playoffs after an 0-3 start. Buffalo in 1998 started with Rob Johnson and his uncanny ability to hold a ball forever; Doug Flutie became the starter in game four, led them to a 10-6 season and was forever immortalized with Flutie Flakes. Detroit in 1995 rode Scott Mitchell’s hot streak to the playoffs after a slow start. The 1981 Jets gave up 30 or more points in the first three games, but the Sack Exchange stiffened after that. Tampa Bay made the playoffs despite a losing record in 1982 because the playoffs expanded to 16 teams due to the player strike. The 1992 Chargers got off to a rough start with 11 sacks allowed and eight interceptions thrown in the first three games. Those Chargers are the only team to go to 0-4 and still reach the playoffs, as they won 11 of the final 12 games.
