The Pros Who Made MLB Preseason Predictions ... Didn't Do So Well

Tough year for MLB predictions. The PECOTA baseball projections only correctly nailed four of the eight postseason teams (misses: Rays, Rangers, Giants, Reds). The ESPN predictions were way off, as well. Only a handful of people picked the Reds to win the Central, and nobody that picked the Reds also picked the Giants.

The predictions at SI were about as rough – nobody had the Giants and nobody had the Reds. SI’s Albert Chen did nail all four teams in the AL, though (nobody at ESPN did that). Looking back at this post from March, it seems pretty obvious that the AL was much easier to project than the NL. We got three of four in the NL (missed the Giants) and two of four in the AL (missed the Rays and Rangers). [Jeter & Minka via Getty]
