World Series Ratings: The Giants over the Rangers in five games tied a dubious record – lowest rated World Series in baseball history. That’s not good news, considering Dallas & San Francisco are the 5th and 6th largest TV markets in the country. Baseball ratings have been trending down for about 15 years now. It’s tough to pin the blame on just steroids/PEDs. Is it simply an attention span issue among sports fans? NBA Finals ratings were enormous in the 80s and 90s, but fell off considerably in the 00s after Kobe and Shaq won a few titles, but rebounded in June with the Lakers and Celtics. Meanwhile, NFL TV ratings – just the regular season, mind you – are astronomical. Focusing on fans who are just watching at home … why aren’t they tuning in to MLB? It wouldn’t surprise us if ratings for a Heat-Lakers Final topped the Giants-Rangers World Series. [USA Today]
