Any geographic designation would have been stupid. “Lakes” and “Plains” wouldn’t have worked, since Michigan and Nebraska are in the same division. The real opportunity was to use the conference’s history, its major asset. “Schembechler” and “Hayes” would have been most fitting, though controversial. The division names have two positive qualities. They aren’t “presented by VIZIO” and they distract from how blindingly stupid the logo is.
