Nets Closing in On Carmelo Anthony: Billy King is best known for being a starter on some strong late-80s Duke teams, and then sputtering as the 76ers GM. But as the Nets’ general manager, he seems poised to land Carmelo Anthony after Tuesday’s 3-team trade. The Nets have stockpiled five 1st round draft picks in the next two years (three in 2011 and two in 2012). They can offer the Nuggets 2010 lottery pick Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy’s expiring deal, and two first-round picks. If Anthony is not impressed with the nucleus – Brook Lopez, basically – the Nets can tell him, ‘you go recruit CP3, we’ve got the draft picks to get him.’ Your move, Knicks. That move could be to pray ‘Melo passes and they sign him as a free agent. [Yahoo]
