The Orlando Magic, mired in an early-season funk (16-9), appear poised to shake up their roster significantly this weekend. ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports the Magic are on the verge of sending backup center Marcin Gortat and underachieving Vince Carter to the Phoenix Suns for Jason Richardson and former Magic hero Hedo Turkoglu. (The Suns, at 12-13, look nothing like last year’s 54-win team without Amare Stoudemire.)
Additionally, there are multiple reports of the Magic sending Rashard Lewis and his awful contract to the Wizards for Gilbert Arenas.
Initial reaction: Win-win for the Magic. They could be looking at a starting backcourt of Nelson and J Rich, with Gilbert Arenas providing instant offense off the bench. And Turkoglu could be the small forward they have been lacking … since he left after their run to the NBA Finals in 2008.
UPDATE: The trade is as official as Vida Guerra’s ass.
