Unbalanced: East Carolina had one of the country’s best passing offenses, however, they were dead last in total defense, 116th against the run and 108th aganst the pass. The Pirates allowed 479 yards per game and 69 touchdowns.

Farewell: This will be Ralph Friedgen’s last game as head coach.  The Fridge was ACC coach of the year, after rebounding to win eight games. Maryland rewarded him by shoving him out the door. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the right move. A coach with one-year left is untenable. Maryland had to extend or cut ties.  Since 2003, the Terps are 43-42. They have only three winning seasons and two above .500 seasons in the ACC. They have not finished in the Top 25. Attendance has become an issue. With names such as Leach, Malzahn and even Rich Rodriguez being floated, it is time to cut ties.

Key Matchup: East Carolina spreads the field and passes. It’s the one thing they do extremely well. Maryland, however, has an excellent secondary. They rank 9th in pass efficiency defense. They can drop seven to torment Dominique Davis.

Prediction: Maryland has better talent and depth. They match up well. They should send Ralph Friedgen off with a win.
