The Mets Are Looking For a Few Good Investors

"“I want to emphasize what we are discussing today has not and will not affect the Mets’ day-to-day operations and control,” Fred Wilpon, 74, said on the call. “Let me stress, at the end of the day, we may or may not do anything. We are exploring options.”"

Freddie’s quote, though he’ll never realize it, is flawlessly beautiful not only because he mentions that the Mets’ day-to-day operations will not change, but also because he suggests they “may not do anything.” There’s no better way to sum up the way things never happen for the Mets — a franchise that feels and smells like it’s been tied to the roof halfway to Wally World — than the way Freddie unknowingly did with that quote.

"“They’re paying for their new stadium, and the team did not do as well in revenue last year,” said Andrew Zimbalist, professor of economics at Smith College. “They also have one of the highest payrolls, so the Wilpons have been bleeding a bit on the Mets side as well.”"

And that nose bleed will remain a gushing maroon waterfall until reinforcements arrive. Probably gonna be a season or two.
