Perry Jones: The Baylor freshman didn’t play in the Bears’ Big 12 tournament loss yesterday, effectively ending their hopes of reaching the NCAA tournament. Jones was suspended because two years ago, his AAU coach “made three payments to Jones’s mother, Terri, to help her cover her mortgage.” The loans covered around $1,000 and were paid back according to the AAU coach. Jones has known the AAU coach since 6th grade, and it doesn’t appear there’s any impropriety between Baylor and the AAU coach. Where’s the beef? Richard Justice invoked the Jerry Tarkanian line, “The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky, they put Cleveland State on probation.” The timing of the punishment, plus the severity of it, is kind of bullshit.
