March Madness: Butler is in the NCAA Tournament
By Jason Lisk
Conference: Horizon (23-9)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Famous Alum: Current Ohio State head coach Thad Matta played at Butler in the late 80’s and then coached his alma mater.
They’re Back! You may remember them from a year ago. With Gordon Hayward, they were a #5 seed and went to the championship game, losing to Duke after beating Syracuse, Kansas State, and Michigan State along the way.
School’s Leading Scorer: Chad Tucker (2,321 points) who played at Butler in the mid-80’s.
Resume: Best wins are over Florida State, Washington State, and Cleveland State (3x). Lost to Louisville, Xavier and Duke early in the season.
Bulldogs rising: On February 3rd, they were 14-9 after three straight losses in conference. They haven’t lost since. Matt Howard, Shelvin Mack, and Ronald Nored are back from last year’s title team, and the Bulldogs are well-coached and sound defensively, as always.
All-Important Rankings: 37 (RPI), 60 (Pomeroy), 48 (Sagarin)
Projected Seed: Butler projects as a #11 seed.
