Does Anyone Want the NC State Men's Basketball Coaching Job?

(Why Marshall didn’t leave remains the question of the moment – did he turn down their 7-year, $13 million-ish offer, or was the offer never actually made?)

It seems like the current dilemma if you’re a mid-major coach is this – do you stay at your school and try to build the next Gonzaga/George Mason/VCU/Butler and wait for a really good job to open up?

Or do you jump at a decent, middle-of-the-pack job where success will be a bit harder (see: Providence, NC State, Iowa, etc) to attain, and if you struggle, you’ll have to start over in three years, probably at a low D1 school, or maybe even as an assistant?

Ten or 15 years ago, it would have been unheard of for guys at the mid-major level to turn down a job at NC State (which has two Sweet 16 appearances in the last 20+ years: 1989, 2005). Butler has done that the last two years. Gonzaga has five Sweet 16 appearances since 1999.
