Red Sox Finally Win a Game, National Media May Stand Down

Boston’s win confirmed what we knew. The sample size was small. The Red Sox aren’t the worst team in baseball. The losses could be significant at season’s end, though they are hardly as damning as the misused numbers claim.
Players such as Crawford and Youkilis should start hitting. The Red Sox ludicrously expensive back end of the rotation might be a concern. What this means for this season’s future, we don’t know. The only certainty is the frequency and ferocity of sports cliches in this column will remain unmatched.
