Moving on Up: UMass football is joining FBS. The Minutemen will join the MAC as football-only members in 2013. For the MAC it means a rational 14-team conference and a potential foothold in untapped New England. UMass will hope the increased visibility and alumni activity will offset the increased cost of the program. The downside is, to meet attendance requirements, they’ll be playing in cavernous Gillette Stadium, 93 miles from campus. [AP]
