2011 NFL Draft: Cam Newton Goes First to Carolina, Von Miller 2nd to Denver, Marcel Dareus 3rd to Buffalo, AJ Green 4th to Cincinnati

Cam Newton, not surprisingly, was the first pick in the NFL Draft. He went first overall to the Carolina Panthers. He’ll have his work cut out – there’s no telling if their top RB (DeAngelo Williams) or WR (Steve Smith) will be around when the season begins. Also: They’re cheap. Perhaps a bigger deal than that: NFL commish Roger Goodell was booed lustily by the crowd at Radio City Music Hall.

Von Miller, the beastly pass rusher from Texas A&M, went second overall to Denver. He’ll go on the opposite end of Elvis Dumerville and terrorize quarterbacks. I can’t believe I already got one pick wrong.

Marcel Dareus went 3rd to Buffalo. He should instantly help one of the worst run defenses in the league.

AJ Green went 4th to Cincinnati. You already know he’s phenomenal, but who will throw him the football? Carson Palmer either looked at his TV and laughed, or said, “maybe I should return?” I doubt it is the latter.

In a bit of a surprise, the Arizona Cardinals passed on a QB and went with DB Patrick Peterson from LSU. Mel Kiper has had Peterson atop his “big board” for months. He could be the overall best athlete in the draft.
