Markieff Morris Isn't Impressed with Derrick Williams

One player not impressed with Williams? Kansas power forward Markieff Morris, who is also projected to go in the first round. Even though Williams scored 27 points on Kansas in a November 2010 loss, Morris told Michael Lee of the Washington Post that he doesn’t think much of Williams.

"“I didn’t think he was as good as advertised,” Morris said. “He got the benefit of the calls from the ref and we had to guard him different. He definitely had a good game against us, because we couldn’t guard him how we wanted to guard him, and that’s what happened.” So when he hears that Williams is a lock to go in the top two, Morris said, “It’s still surprises me. What he did to Duke, he wouldn’t do that to me or my brother [Marcus]. I’m dead serious. He wouldn’t. At all. He’s good. But if we was to work out, I would go at him and I would be able to stop him more than people would expect, you know what I mean.”"

Sounds like a challenge. Markieff is projected as a power forward, while his brother, Marcus, is trying to make the conversion to small forward. My guess is Williams has far too much to lose by accepting this challenge, so he’ll probably avoid it. I much prefer Williams’ versatility to that of either Morris twin. I’d say the ceiling for the Morris twins is Drew Gooden (solid player, nice rebounder, making good coin), but Williams, who is a late bloomer, probably could become a significantly better player (especially offensively), with a ceiling of perhaps Larry Johnson (before the injuries) or Michael Beasley (without the attitude).
