UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will fight Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz at UFC 137 on October 29th. Dana White made the announcement official on Twitter yesterday afternoon. I can’t believe it’s actually happening.
I mean, I was hoping GSP would fight either Diaz or Anderson Silva, but there seemed to be so many hurdles in the way of both fights, I never had any real expectations. And making either fight meant the other would probably never happen.
So we get Diaz, the Strikeforce champion who was involved in the Nashville Brawl on CBS. According to Cesaer Gracie, Diaz has signed a multi-fight, multi-year contract with the UFC that will allow him to fight in Strikeforce if he so desires. Business as usual indeed.
So we’ve got almost five months of Nick Diaz mumbling trash talk in Georges St. Pierre’s direction. Lots of people have talked shit and tried to play the black hat to GSP’s squeaky clean hero, but none of them have been Diaz’s caliber of insanity.
