Curtis Granderson Wants to Know Where All the African-American Baseball Fans Are

"“Count the number of African-American people here at the stadium who aren’t working at the stadium and see if you can get to 10 … At first, it starts off as a joke. And then as the game moves on, you’ll get to 10, or maybe 15. Depends on where you are, too. Places like Chicago or New York, other places, it’s easy. Here, it’s hard. So after a while it becomes, ‘Told you so.’ “"

That’s depressing.

Corey Patterson, who is one of three black players on the Toronto Blue Jays, doesn’t like the trend, either.

"“But it does bother me. It does. I’m not saying the whole stadium needs to be brown or black, it’s not that. I could talk about this until I’m blue in the face, and you might sympathize, but it doesn’t affect you, so you don’t think about it too long … It’s hard for me to explain. Someone might say it’s fine and we’re all cool, but it’s easier said if you’re the majority.”"

According to Granderson, the league hasn’t had a black star since Ken Griffey Jr. I guess he doesn’t think much of Ryan Howard? [Star Telegram]
