The Jets will probably make him their No. 3 receiver, after Santonio Holmes and Jericho Cotchery. They don’t have an established No. 4 receiver, but Patrick Turner will probably go into camp with the inside track on the job. The signing of Burress shuts the door to Braylon Edwards returning to the Jets, so the Jets will go into the season with fewer offensive weapons than they did last year.

In Plax’s last full season with the Giants – 2007 – he caught 70 balls for 1,029 yards and 12 touchdowns at the age of 30. He helped the Giants upset the Patriots in the Super Bowl that year, catching the game-winning touchdown pass. Eight months later, he brought a gun into a NYC nightclub and accidentally shot himself in the leg. The result? Over two years in prison.
