The Stephen Garcia Experience Continues: He Won't Start vs. East Carolina

Here’s what the Ol’ Ball Coach Steve Spurrier said Thursday night:

"“I said way back we’re going to have a preseason competition to see who the starter is going to be (the) first game,” said Spurrier on his call-in show. “We’ve gone through preseason, so it’s over. The guy who rated the best was Connor Shaw. He played better than Stephen Garcia. Simple as that. So he’s going to start the game. He’s going to play the first quarter and Stephen’s going to play the second quarter. And we’re going to see what happens after that. That’s the fair way to do it.”"

If this is meant to be some kind of teaching experience … bad idea. Garcia might just go out and do something silly in the next 36 hours. Remember this incident in summer?

"The senior acted out and later admitted drinking before an SEC-mandated meeting designed to encourage good life choices beyond college."

With Garcia, the Gamecocks are a National title contender. One would assume SC fans are praying Garcia – who is 23 – can keep his act together for the next four months. [Daily Gamecock]
