Farewell R.E.M.

R.E.M.is breaking up. Luckily, they stopped making hits a few years ago so the only people who will truly miss them are the fans who were seeing them on tour. That’s assuming R.E.M. was still touring. I have no idea. I just know that when I was growing up I couldn’t listen to the radio for more than an hour without an R.E.M. song coming on the radio. You know, back when we listened to the radio.

Really, what more is there for R.E.M. to accomplish in this musical life? They were inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and really, they’ll be remembered as one of the best bands of the 80’s and 90’s.

What R.E.M. calling it quits really means is that we’re getting old. R.E.M. released their first album the same year I was born. Luckily, we’re still allowed to listen to R.E.M. and sing the twenty or songs every single one of us knows by heart.
