CBS Documentary Reliving Origin Of Grambling-Morgan State Rivarly

The film recounts a game between Grambling and Morgan State at Yankee Stadium in 1968, the first historically black college football game played in New York City.

The documentary will debut on Sept. 28, exactly 43 years after the game was played. CBS Sports Network is available on cable and satellite channels.

The game, played in front of more than 64,000 fans, had major implications on the NFL, as 31 players who played that day were drafted to the NFL or AFL.

1st & Goal in The Bronx features numerous interviews with players from Grambling and Morgan State, including Shack Harris and Raymond Chester, as well as current Grambling coach Doug Williams, Willie Brown, Willie Lanier, legendary Grambling head coach Eddie Robinson’s widow Doris Robinson and veteran sports columnist Jerry Izenberg.

The game has been played every year since. It officially became the New York Urban League Classic in 1971, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The New York Urban League Classic was played at Yankee Stadium until 1987, when it moved to the Meadowlands.
