Rookie Coaches Off To Good Start After Lockout

Well, so far, it hasn’t really worked out that way. The first year coaches, taking over teams that won 5.6 games on average last year, are off to a 12-12 start. Over half of the 8 new coaches have a winning record through 3 games, as Oakland, Cleveland, San Francisco, Dallas and Tennessee are 2-1. The only winless new coach is one who was already an interim coach, and has seen his team blow three straight double digit halftime leads.

If you look at just the coaches who had never coached an NFL game before this season–Jim Harbaugh, Hue Jackson, Mike Munchak, Ron Rivera, and Pat Shurmur–four of them are 2-1.
