2011 ALDS: A Huge Opportunity for AJ Burnett

For most Yankee fans, the lasting baseball moments that tend to live in their heads are more often than not from the postseason. A perfect example would be Mike Mussina. He never really connected with the fans in New York partially due to what came off as a nondescript, indifferent personality, but moreso because of his penchant for throwing the bats under the bus when run support was not up to his standards. All of that changed thanks to a signature postseason moment when he came on in relief in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS with the bases loaded and no out, and the Red Sox on the verge of blowing the game open. Mussina magically escaped damage and got out of the jam, and that’s how he’s remembered. Tonight, A.J. Burnett and all of his baggage have a similar opportunity. If he can bring the Yankees back to New York so much crap will be forgotten.

Going for Detroit is Jersey native and noted Mets fans, Rick Porcello. This one starts at 8:37 pm on TBS and an hour later the D-Backs host the Brewers on TNT. I would make a joke about how Josh Collmenter of all people is being tasked with the job of saving Arizona’s season, but they’ve proved me wrong all year long. There’s no reason Collmenter can’t do the same.
