2011 ALCS: Tigers Turn to Fister for a Surge

The Tigers head into Game 3 of the ALCS down 2-0 in the series and find themselves without the services of Delmon Young. To make the dire circumstances even more inspiring, Don Kelly will be batting fifth and the immortal Andy Dirks will patrol right field. Buster Olney reported on SportsCenter that when asked of the last time he batted fifth in the order, Kelly responded that he could not remember. Gotta appreciate the innocence and honesty.

Kelly actually had two big hits in the 9th and 11th innings of last night’s game after being inserted late as a defensive replacement, and also launched a first inning solot shot in Game 5 of the ALDS in the Bronx, so I fully expect the nice Irish kid to stand and deliver this evening. Plus, Doug Fister will be on the mound looking to ruin hitters with a violently nasty splitter and the usual array of heat.
