The New York Post was too busy putting Big Papi on their back cover, but I would hope if they were to jump into the mix, those boozehounds would at least throw up something along the lines of “Bruise Cruz.” Onto the game…

As mentioned, Nelson Cruz burned the Tigers again in the 11th inning, this time with a 3-run homer that followed Mike Napoli’s RBI single to put the game out of reach. But before even getting to that point, the whole thing almost blew up in Ron Washington’s face. In the eighth inning, with one out and nobody on, he decided to intentionally walk Miguel Cabrera. Sure enough, Victor Martinez followed with a single that sent Cabrera to third. Up next came Delmon Young, who sent one into right field that Cruz caught and promptly fired home. It was a perfect one-hop throw to gun down Miggy, thanks in part to the Tigers slugger being slightly slower than Wampa Man. Right here is where someone complains that Leyland didn’t send in a pinchrunner, and they may have a point. Scoring a run there, considering they would have been three outs away from a win, was the gaping difference between being down 3-1 and evening up the series. That hurts.
