Jason Motte is Totally the New Brian Wilson Mariano Rivera

Remember last October when Brian Wilson of the Giants had a tremendous postseason – 0.00 ERA, .771 WHIP, six saves and 11.2 scoreless innings? That role this October is being played by Jason Motte of St. Louis. As Buster Olney points out, Motte is having an incredible month: 9 innings, one hit allowed, five saves, 0.00 ERA. Motte’s 10-pitch ninth inning closed out Texas.

I’m still a bit shell-shocked the Cardinals are even in the World Series – remember when Adam Wainwright was lost for the season in February and everyone wrote off St. Louis? Too damn bad the Yankees didn’t get Chris Carpenter when they had the chance.
