Last night Toronto came back from 3-1 deficit to beat Winnipeg in a shootout. Toronto’s Joffrey Lupul scored two goals, including this well-placed blast that destroyed the goal cam. Brendan Shanahan released a video* explaining Lupul’s subsequent fine and suspension for the unprovoked attack of the goal camera sometime today.

“After reviewing the game film, it is the NHL’s determination that the goalie was clearly beaten on the play and Joffrey Lupul had ample opportunity to angle his shot differently so as to avoid contact with the stationary camera.”

The camera spent the rest of the game in a dark room trash bin. Lupul now has 4 goals and 3 assists through 5 games this season.

*Just to be clear, the part about the suspension was parody. There is no video. Lupul isn’t facing any punishment – that I’m aware of.*
