So Bill Cowher Will Be Coaching the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, Right?

Which coach will have the fortune of enjoying the tail end of Peyton Manning’s career, and the beginning of Andrew Luck’s? Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star isn’t sure, but he’s certain it won’t be Jim Caldwell.

"Whether it’s Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck next season, it seems like a fait accompli that somebody else will be coaching them. I like Caldwell, think he did a fine job the Super Bowl year and last year. But this team should not be 0-7 and heading to 0-9. He’s not alone in culpability — start first with Chris and Bill Polian — but New Orleans will be Caldwell’s Waterloo. Jim Irsay doesn’t like to be embarrassed, especially not on national TV. I believe Caldwell will last the season. Not so sure about the defensive coordinator, Larry Coyer, who looked so dazed walking out of the locker room, you’d swear he’d been walloped by a baseball bat."

You’ll probably hear Bill Cowher’s name first. With Jon Gruden off the market, and no Jim Harbaugh-caliber college coach ready to make the jump (I love Chris Petersen, but don’t see it; Les Miles is an interesting candidate, but he turns 58 in two weeks), Cowher will probably make his mind up for Miami or Indianapolis right after it is determined who gets Andrew Luck. I’d actually say the New York Giants’ opening – assuming they tank in the second half and Coughlin is fired – would be more attractive than whoever gets the No. 2 pick. Yes, even if it is Indy.
