Big East Football is finished. It’s a question of when. Connecticut, Rutgers, South Florida, Louisville and Cincinnati will not form the core of a viable football conference, no matter how expansive the definition of “East” becomes. The remaining schools are committed at this moment, because no other conference wants them. If the Big East does still exist, the only thing that keeps its BCS bid will be what a lawsuit could mean.

Adding West Virginia would put the Big 12 at a sensible ten teams. There’s BYU. They could also put the Big East out of its misery and bring in Louisville and Cincinnati to bring back a title game.

Expect Notre Dame to move its non-football sports to the Big 12. The Big Ten makes the most geographic sense, but won’t have them unless they want to play with an oblong pigskin as well.
