Per Joe Schad, New Mexico has hired Bob Davie to be the next head football coach. Davie has not coached since he was fired at Notre Dame after the 2001 season, and has been working as an analyst for ESPN for several seasons.
You might recall that head coach Mike Locksley was fired in September after disappointing on the field results and then this incident involving a former high school player getting a DUI in Locksley’s car. The Lobos haven’t been to a bowl game since 2007, went 1-11 in each of the previous two seasons with Locksley, and are 1-9 so far this year. I guess there is no place to go but up, but going with a guy who has been out of coaching for a decade is an interesting choice.
