NBA Lockout Ends at 149 Days, Season Begins on Christmas
By Jason McIntyre
The players and owners have a handshake agreement in place, but not all the details have been revealed. I’m most curious about the rumored 2-years-removed-from-high school eligibility requirement for the draft.
More details as they trickle out over the weekend.
My pithy thoughts on the lockout: the length – 149 days – means nothing. I don’t think the sport will lose hardcore fans or even casual ones. November was a loaded sports month – college football, the NFL and the start of the college hoops season – and the NBA would have gotten no coverage at all due to the Penn State scandal. Thanksgiving belongs to the NFL, then the bowl games arrive in mid-December, and I think a Christmas start to the NBA season is ideal.
