Tebow Celebrates When Denver Wins In Overtime; Norv Turner and John Fox Hold a Coaching Convention

Then the teams played not to lose in overtime. Tebow knows when to be clutch and when not to. He knew to come up short, knowing that his coach would twice punt it in 4th and half yard situations. He obviously knew that the Chargers would then get right on the edge of field goal range, and that Norv would get lured by that siren song and then take the air out of the ball and just sit on a 50+ yard field goal.

Denver’s defense– and the Chargers struggles with Philip Rivers and the offensive line, particularly the mismatch of Clary on Von Miller–was the story of the game.

Both of these coaches were pretty dreadful in overtime. Fox was lucky. Tim Tebow may not be the best weapon on third and long in passing situations, but short yardage? That second punt, particularly, looked like it was playing for a tie in a key division game. He was lucky to get it back.

Norv Turner should probably just get the axe now. No need prolonging it. That game was his career in a neat little package with a bow on it. He got to field goal range, but just barely, and played like the game was in the bag. Then Fox, with one timeout left, saves it to ice the kicker. (It was blocked and a timeout called). Never mind that Denver could still win the game, and preserving time might be an issue.

Honestly, the Denver defense was the star of the game. Tim Tebow, I thought, played better than I have seen in some other games. He had heaping helpings of time to throw, as the Chargers lack a pass rush and also played to prevent the edge runs. The two coaches, meanwhile, were the anti-stars of this crapfest, and showed just how sub-optimal some decision making is in the NFL.
