Toronto GM Brian Burke Wanted To Fight Edmonton GM Kevin Lowe In A Lake Placid Barn

In this clip, Brian Burke, the president and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, talks about his rivalry with former Edmonton Oilers GM and current president, Kevin Lowe. Burke and Lowe were friends until they had a falling out when Burke was the GM of the Anaheim Ducks. Burke was angered by the offer sheet that Lowe had presented to Dustin Penner in 2007.

“Edmonton has offered a mostly inflated salary for a player, and I think it’s an act of desperation for a general manager who is fighting to keep his job.”

The two had an exchange of words and Burke rented out a barn for a fist fight. Somehow, Gary Bettman caught wind of the possible fight and stepped in. It was Brian Burke’s son, Brendan, who told his father that he needed to end the beef. Unfortunately, Brendan died in a car accident before Burke made amends.
