Kentucky 73, North Carolina 72. Anyone Ready For the March Rematch?

Kentucky 73, UNC 72. The Wildcats were victorious when Anthony Davis blocked John Henson’s shot with :04 left, and the Tar Heels stood around, bewildered, instead of fouling. (Then Kentucky’s Marquis Teague picked up the ball and walked with it with :01 second left while prematurely celebrating, but the referees missed it.)

Pithy thoughts:
– Kentucky played stout defense holding UNC to just 41 percent shooting. Tyler Zeller was just 4-of-9, John Henson shot 4-of-11 and Harrison Barnes was 5-of-12.
– Barnes had a bad game. He got in foul trouble early, never even tried to attack the basket, and as usual, settled for 3-pointers. I thought he was badly outplayed by Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, an aggressive freshman who was the best player on the floor for much of the 2nd half (17 points, 11 rebounds).
– Kidd-Gilchrist was awesome. He kind of reminded me of a young Ron Artest because he’s physical, relentless, and always around the ball. He can score inside and out, but seems to prefer the trenches. He looked like a Top 10 pick to me.
– Kentucky’s only real issue is point guard. Marquis Teague was out of control and teams will continue to play off of him until he makes shots. Only a freshman, he was 3-of-11 from the field. UK turned to Doron Lamb at point in the 2nd half, but he doesn’t quite have the handle (four turnovers), and he wilted under pressure in the final 90 seconds with a bad turnover that immediately led to a UNC 3-pointer.
