Of course, the identity of the teams that ended prior undefeated seasons this late in the year fits more in line with the Giants, who are now 6-5. Eight other teams since 1978 got to this point at 11-0. The 2007 Patriots of course went undefeated in the regular season. The other seven teams lost to opponents who were collectively 47-40 (.540 winning percentage) at the time they upset the perfect team. In 1998, a 5-8 New York Giants team hosted the Denver Broncos and ended the perfect run. Only one of the teams that ended perfection had fewer than 5 losses at the time of the upset–the 1985 Dolphins (8-4) over the Bears in that famous Monday Night game.

The Giants hope that they fit the mold in three hours, and join the 2009 Cowboys, Bill Polian, the 2005 Chargers, the 1998 Giants, the 1991 Cowboys, the 1985 Dolphins, and the 1984 Chargers in stopping history.

Oh, and the Quarterback for the Giants and some of the other players on that sideline? They were on the field for the biggest history stopping moment of all.
