Oregon State Freshman Defensive Tackle Fred Thompson Died of a Heart Attack

Sad news out of Corvallis, Oregon this evening. Cliff Kirkpatrick, Oregon State beat writer for the Corvallis Gazette-Times, is reporting that freshman greyshirt defensive tackle Fred Thompson has died of a heart attack at the student rec center while playing basketball.

Fred Thompson was an Oakland area native and an all-city and northern California region defensive tackle in high school. He was a “grey shirt” who just enrolled at Oregon State for the winter semester and had yet to play for the team. Our condolences to Thompson’s family and his friends and teammates at Oregon State.
