Jerry Sandusky Waives Preliminary Hearing, Arraignment Set For January 11

Jerry Sandusky’s victims were ready to face the former Penn State assistant coach in court today, but it never materialized – in a surprising move, Sandusky’s lawyer waived the preliminary hearing. In legalspeak, that means:

a decision that moves him toward a trial on charges of child sex abuse and takes away the possibility that he would publicly face his accusers today

Then, Sandusky briefly met with reporters and used a football analogy: “to put together the best possible defense … we’re stay the course and fight for four quarters.” Then he left, surrounded by a flotilla of police officers. Nobody threw objects at Sandusky. [AP]
