Sam Hurd of the Bears Arrested on Federal Drug Charges [UPDATE]

Sam Hurd, a seldom-used receiver on the Chicago Bears, was arrested Wednesday night on federal drug charges according to the Dallas Morning News.

According to authorities, Hurd allegedly attempted to purchase drugs from a supplier here in North Texas, which is where the case will be adjudicated. The local office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement is handling the investigation, authorities said.

Hurd only has eight receptions this season, and none in the last month. He previously played with the Cowboys. In July, Hurd signed a 3-year, $5.15 million deal with the Bears. [Tribune]

[UPDATE: According to the Sun-Times, “The complaint says Hurd told the agent that he was interested in buying five to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week for distribution in the Chicago area.“]
