Carlos Zambrano is headed to the Miami Marlins and his former team will be picking up a whopping $15 million of the $18 million he’s owed for the 2012 season. The deal was an absolute no-brainer for the Marlins, a franchise that’s become increasingly adept at getting other people to pay for things. As for the Cubs, they’ll be receiving 24-year-old starter Chris Volstad in the deal, but the main purpose was to ship Big Z far out of town, so I suppose it’s a win for them as well.
Also winning in this deal? The fans. Take a look at this cast of characters that will be sitting in the Miami dugout next season:
Ozzie Guillen, Heath Bell, tweeting legend Logan Morrison, the surlier-than-ever Hanley Ramriez, the inevitable drama surrounding the hamstrings attached to Jose Reyes, and Carlos freaking Zambrano.
I’m excited for this, and you should be too.
