Jay Paterno Is Out As Penn State Quarterbacks Coach

The move was not unexpected. Keeping a Paterno on staff didn’t mesh with the whole “fresh start” motif. His performance was suspect (see: McGloin/Bolden 2010-11). O’Brien, himself a quarterback coach, would surely want to implement his own regime. His name is noteworthy, but this process, in the coaching world, was routine. CNN terming this “quitting Penn State amid scandal” is a gross mischaracterization.
