Hope nobody got excited about the prospect of Mayweather and Pacquiao fighting on May 5th in Vegas. Because Manny Pacquiao’s financial adviser told the Associated Press it’s not happening. A boxing arena is currently being built in Vegas. It will seat 45,000. Why would Pacquiao fight in a 17,000 seat arena and pass up the opportunity to make another $30 million?
Don’t think this is the end of the financial semantics. Once the arena is built, your next hurdle: Can Mayweather guarantee 50-50 sharing? They’ll go 15 rounds over that, obviously.
So the Fight that Could Save Boxing will be delayed. Again. And again. By the time these two get in the ring, neither will be in their prime, and the fight will be awful, and everyone will say, “that’s what we waited three years for?”
