A gruesome Egyptian soccer riot following a match between club sides Al Ahly and Al Masry has left a death toll of 73 and counting, with more than 300 injured.

Al Masry fans streamed out of the stands onto the pitch following the match “throwing stones, fireworks and bottles” after their 3-1 win, chasing the opposing Al Ahly players off the field and attempting to force their way into the team’s dressing room. Some reports suggest the violence may have been pre-planned by a group of Masry ultras.

We’ll update as more information becomes available.

Update: Al Jazeera is reporting the Egyptian military sent helicopters to remove Al Ahly players and fans from Port Said.

Update: AP now estimates the injury toll at more than 1,000.
